The Forum Romanum was the center of power for the Ancient Roman Empire. Emperors, senators, gladiators, common folks, slaves, craftsmen, businessmen, generals and foot soldiers – every single Roman citizen had their everyday life regulated at the Forum, which was the power center of the entire Roman Empire.

Palatine Hill, which is one of the Seven Hills of Rome, lay ground to the palace of the Emperor and a number of other buildings like a stadium and several temples. In one of the excavations, you can even see the oldest foundation found in Rome (4 holes from wooden poles of a hut), dating back to the Etruscans’ settlement of the hill.

The museum/excavation area itself is placed in the heart of present-day Rome. A trip to the Forum Romanum could also include visiting the Colosseum and the Baths of Caracalla.
